bourbon-flavored 'Cajun mayhem from old Acadie.

Sylvain's Acadian Aces keeps the ‘cajun flame alive in old Acadie with an energetic brand of raw, rootsy 'cajun music derived directly from the source. The vocal power of guitarist Robert Sylvain and charismatic fiddler Hawk Kallweit supplies a one-two punch that’s instantly compelling and distinctive. With Maine's own true accordian ace Junior Stevens on button-box, and the unstoppable combination of Tom Jacques on upright bass and Kris Day on drums, Sylvain's Acadian Aces deliver heart-wrenching lovesongs and electrifying dance numbers that can bring even the most stoic New Englanders to their feet. Rooted in classic cajun two-steps and waltzes, the repertoire also folds in elements of creole and zydeco traditions along with original Americana and rock 'n roll sensibilities.

Boréal Tordu

Original and Traditional Music of the Acadian-Maineiacs

Boréal Tordu began when fiddler Steve Muise and singer Robert Sylvain discovered a mutual interest in the music of their shared Acadian heritage. While signs of their parents' culture can still be found in Maine, it was almost lost to their generation, after years of forced assimilation. More than a revival, their music represents a continuation of Franco-Maineiac musical traditions passed down from the Acadians, the Québécois, and the unique French- speaking people of the the Republic of Madawaska and milltowns all over New England.

Robert Sylvain & Friends

Presenting traditional Acadian ballads in English and French for listening rooms and intimate concert venues

Having spent years researching the melodies and origins of dozens of old Acadian ballads in a notebook left by his Mémère Thibodeau, Robert Sylvain presents a mélange of poignant laments & serenades along with uproarious broadsides & epics. Originally meant to be sung a cappella in French, Robert has painstakenly translated and arranged many of the songs for modern sensibilities, and through his many collaborations, has incorporated old and new instrumentation including everything from hurdy-gurdy to full orchestra.
